Akrun

Akrun can be regarded as an actor, poet, producer, singer, writer, community activist, and educator.  Having obtained his Master’s degree from N.I.U., he went into teaching for the Chicago Public Schools and working with Americorps, while still in constant pursuit of mastering his skills as an artist.  He sings primarily a fusion of Hip-Hop, Neo-soul, and Spoken Word, uniquely combining all genres into a distinct style of music.  With positive lyrics speaking directly on life, the struggles, and trials overcome, he has tried to bring positive insight to the lives of others.  One personal ambition of his is to redirect the radio waves by pushing forth positive and enlightening music. 

   

Akrun has been singing and writing songs for numerous years, with performances at various venues.  This includes writing and performing original songs for weddings and soiree’s.  He has also added acting to his repertoire of God given gifts and talents, performing in various plays: ‘School Daze, Class of 05,’ The Wiz, Chicago Style,’ ‘The Hearts of Men,’ and ‘Standing Strong for Mine.’  Some of his performances include: performances on the Big Smooth Show, G-Mar Music Showcase, Nation of Islam Talent Million Man March celebration, multi appearances on Channel 19, hosting his own show and open mic “Rhythmic Speak.”   He has also showcased his talents at a plethora of clubs around the Chicago land area. 

  

Akrun plans on expounding his blossoming career in the performing arts.   He has successfully completed a mix tape- “A Brief Introduction”.  This has a mixture of spoken word, R&B, and rap.  Also, he has put together a poetry book entitled “Collections,” to more recently playing an extra on the TV show “Chicago Fire.”  Future plans include a release of his second published book of poetry, a debut album “People Music,” sometime next year, and a website showing his many talents.  Akrun also works in his community with various organizations; performing with the intent of bringing back positive music to the air ways.
